I've been working at Small Design Firm in Cambridge for the past 6 months, and we interactively designed the new wing at the New York Historical Society. I animated the "Living Paintings Project" which is now up in the entrance of The New York Historical Society. The project was animated in Photoshop and After Effects and projected on 10 huge LED screens.

Horny Old Goat

Horny Old Goat will remain a little secret to me as I work on this cartoon. I did these sketches in my book and then brought them into Photoshop and Illustrator. This is also my first Photoshop work. I'm working digitally now, in hopes of better job hunts.

Flash Part 3

My final Flash learning loop. I tried taking this one to a professional level......... It's almost there, I feel like I'm ready to start producing professional type work in flash....... I'm also starting to enjoy it. This scene is of Opus being chased by a cop, it's part of my Opus Redux cartoon. The frame rate is screwed up from the blog upload........ It animates much better than it shows hear in Blogspot........ REALLY!!!...... Sorry.

This is my 2nd loop while learning flash, In this loop I add a 2nd character. I also introduce a background. It's great because in Flash and in digital work, you don't have to draw the background over and over again.

Old High School GraffitiBook

A couple page from my old high school graffiti book......... Back then I used to do other peoples characters, mixed in with my own graffiti...... Kind of like Pop Culture influenced graffiti work. The top one says "The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman" and the bottom one says "Dragon Ball Z"......... and then each piece is decorated with characters from the respective genre.

One is for Split Second Splat, my Degree Project from last year. One is for Zombie Marches, my P.S.A. Done in marker, reworked in Illustrator and Photoshop. And one is Opus, something I'm trying to work on now.

New Graffiti Book: Gremlin & Sons Auto Body

This is a new piece from my book. I've always been interested in mechanical objects and also cars. It says "Gremlin and Sons Auto Body". The "Gremlin" is in the wild style graffiti on the back wall. The " & Sons Auto Body" is in the mechanical car parts all over the place. As always, it's done in Prismacolor markers.

Illustration 4, Famous Portrait, Larry King................ Maybe I'm still in my Zombie phase, but when I heard we had to do a famous portrait Larry King popped in my mind. He always looks like a rotting corps......... this was done in Gouache and Colored Pencil.

New Book Graffiti

Some new book graffiti....... Unfortunately I don't get much time to work on these..... MassArt seems to frown on marker work...... not to mention graffiti work. OK, enough MassArt bashing, the top piece says "Galactic Graff Style Wars"........... I felt like doing a space piece.. I mixed marker with acrylic paint to get the stars and galaxies in the background. The bottom piece says "Shiva Shantis Graffiti Horror Show".

The idea behind this is basically myself coming out of pills..... I was taking a lot pills back then because of my Crohns Disease..... I soon stopped taking my pills and actually started to feel better...... So I've broken the mummy pill bandages.. ; )

Degree Project Update!!!...... In Progress!!!

I am uploading some finished single frames from Degree Project "Split Second Splat"..... production is non-stop ; (....... and slow ; (

These frames are from the beginning of the cartoon...... I just finished the 3rd death scene, and getting ready for the final battle scene. The conclusion of the film along with the idea of bringing ground to a finish is starting to give me a headache...... always looking at a lightbox is contributing to that head crunching, eye bleeding feeling. Oh well!

Here is another in-progress scene from the cartoon.... I just extended a couple of the shots and will finish inking it in tomorrow, it's all leading up to the parachute interaction which I animated yesterday...... Is anyone else getting a little confused & exhausted with Degree Project?..... WE ONLY HAVE 6 MORE WEEKS TO FINISH ANIMATING!?!?!!

This is the cover of the book..... a giant pulsating nerve tree thingy...... communicating to the rest of the universe...... this is from my word and image class, and we had to write a book about what we really thought trees were...... I don't know.........

The idea was that trees were like nerves that felt everything that happened in the world and throughout the universe........ communicating to each other like nerves or antennas.

This piece includes Frank Zappa reading from the book "Naked Lunch"........ the part about the guy who taught his asshole to talk.........AWESOME!!!

The animation is done crosshatch style with a pen...... Which was a pain in the ass....... and there are mixed feelings about the style by both students and teachers....... I like it, and hopefully I can go back in sometime (maybe portfolio)... and fill it in.

My alphabet book!............. well a page from my alphabet book. It's a Monster alphabet book....... and the letter M stands for Mummy. I did it in marker first, than scanned it in to illustrator and touched it up with the type design. With the letter M unwrapping from the zombies bandages, It says, "M is for the zombie who escaped his shadowy tomb. Unwrapping his bandages, a skeleton was all that was left to exhume."..... Oooooooo scary! I don't know if there is a market for this with the little ones...... But who hasn't seen The Monster Squad?!?

Wabi- Sabi... which is seeing beauty is objects that are imperfect or are usually seen as being ugly...... I used to stay in this really nice apartment that had really crappy windows...... the landlord was a greased up can of cocoa butter, and he never helped fix it........but for some reason I thought it looked cool....... so I drew it.........It was done in pencils and it's one of my bigger illustrations, so it gets damaged more frequently...... which sucks!

The Scorcerer....... An Animated Poem!

Animation 3?,....... The Poem?........... We were supposed to animate a poem, but the assignment kept changing on us........ At one point we had to have words from the poem in the actual animation....... and then at another point we were to use our own voices to narrate the poem... both ideas at some point got cut......

What resulted was a weird cartoon that doesn't make much sense....... I still kind of like it.... I wish I had spent more time focusing on the cartoon than the stupid words!

This is a Calvin and Hobbes piece..... I love Calvin and Hobbes.... This piece says "Calvin and Hobbes Rule the Universe"............. I'm not going to go into where is says all this, just trust me...... in various styles of graffiti mixed in with a Calvin and Hobbes space battle scene.

This is a colored pencil Graffiti illustration that I did a few years ago..... It was actually done before I started full time at MassArt...... The perspective is off...... I leaned that in John Roman's class ; )

It says "Bomben Gritty in Gotham City" ..... The Joker is riding a blimp that is poring out a liquid style of graffiti that says "Bomben"..... Underneath is a 3-d style that says "Gritty"(Poison Ivy is next to it)... Underneath that is a wild style written on the wall that says "Gotham", and underneath that is a tech style breaking out of the asylum that says "City".

The idea was a Gotham Asylum breakout with lot's of graffiti...... And sorry about the picture..... I never took a shot of it before putting it in a frame, and now I always get a glare.....Someday I hope to have a better photo.

This is an in progress scene from my degree project "Split Second Splat"............the animation is hand drawn on index cards and than inked with drawing inks.There are no holds are cycles which makes the animation load very heavy.I'vespent hundreds of hours animating it so far and I think my eyeballs are about tobleed out of my skull.......... but I'll keep you updated and the sick game of SplitSecond Splat is on the way!

This is an Archimbaldo style portrait of Chuck Close...... Confused?..... Well I took an old picture of Chuck Close and I designed a portrait illustration that was compiled out of items that represent his life....... the neck and shoulders are paint tubes and paint brushes.... the face area are mosaics, cameras, cigarettes, and film/Polaroids. The whole thing is done in colored pencils......... and I have no idea why I put it in twice. Double your pleasure.

Mosaic Paintings......... The Joker and Self Portrait

These are mosaic paintings done in acrylics. The joker painting is done from a reference image I found online.... Its painted on a huge canvas, about 5 feet tall and has over 450 squares that make up the mosaic. The self portrait below is done from a reference photo I took at school.... I'm holding a coffee mug, even though I don't drink coffee and hate the taste of it..... I think it has the taste of acid..... if I knew what acid tasted like.

These are some single frames from Zombie Marches...... The cartoon was done cross-hatch with a pen and filled in with a red Prismacolor marker, about 600 frames or so...... the cross-hatch is a pain in the ass, and the fumes from the marker were getting to me brain.
